Welcome to Sun City Harriers
Youth Cross-Country Club
At Sun City Harriers, we’re all about fun and competitive sports. Our experienced coaches train our team to reach their highest potential, and to always have a great time whenever we play. We’ve been around since 2013 and are not planning on going anywhere. See how you can become part of our running family.
Practices for 2020 are going to be in pods until we have permission to move to regionalized practices in November hopefully.
Regular Season Schedule
September 10th-October 18th
Sun City Time Trial
First meet of the season starts off with a very informal meet at Franklin Park. Kids will run our 1-mile course. This is a virtual race and can also be done remotely. Most will be racing in their individual pod of 5 and then we will compile the results.
Sun City Home Meet
Just like our time-trial but we will be doing both a 1-mile and 1.5 mile depending on the age of the Harriers.
Sun City Championship Meet
Usually this is the Apple Ridge Run against Wenas. That meet has been moved to April of next year. This will be our third and final meet of the year. If restrictions let up, we may try to do a larger group race on Saturday the 17th.
October 14th-December 14th
USATF will not be announcing the post-season plan until the end of September. Their nationals were scheduled to be in Kentucky with Regionals in Seattle. There is also a chance we may take our team to AAU Nationals in Florida if USATF cancels their meet.
Franklin Park Course
The Terrace is waiting for you
Franklin Park is perfect for cross-country. Consisting of 1k and 2k loops it is great for spectators and coaches. It also consists of hills and "The Terrace!" At the end of the terrace, each racer has exactly 800 meters to the finish. 3k course button is below. The 2000 meter course, 4000 meter course, and 5000 meter course are here.
Proud Host of 2018 USATF Inland Northwest Association Junior Olympic Championships and Region 13 Championships
Junior Olympic Regionals
November 17th, 2018
Junior Olympic Regionals in Yakima, (top 30 individuals and top 5 teams advance to nationals in Reno, NV.) Next to Nationals, this will be the most competitive meet of the year and what the "Yellow" and "Black" groups will be gearing up for all season. Last year we had 30 Harriers travel to nationals, will we have more this year in Nevada? Our goal as a club this year is to field a full-team in every age group.
2018 Track and Field Season
Thanks to everyone who ran track this last year. Sun City had their best year ever in track in both numbers and people who made nationals.
About Sun City Track and Cross Country Club
You might say the beginning of the Sun City Harriers started back in 1984. This is when Erik started running for the Cascade Strider cross-country team in Bellevue. His wife Aleah ran for the old West Valley Ramblers starting in the late 80’s for their track team.
Aleah and Erik met on the cross-country team at the University of Washington in the fall of 1997. You could easily say cross-country is in the Mickelson blood.
We love the sport of running and are hoping to pass on the joy and passion to you and your family.
